The CrimeWaves Podcast was initiated due to the the inspiration to develop and create a podcast series
based on Canadian criminal events. (Topic selected by students). In order to explore the distinct crimes
witnessed in Canadian history, students are tasked with exploring different aspects of each case, and this
case becomes the focus of a season. The different aspects then becomes the focus of each episode. This podcast
brings to listeners real and raw journalism at an amateur level, helping listeners gain an initial and informed
perspective on significant crimes occurring in Canada. This is a student driven project taken on by the grade 12
Canadian international law class at CPSS
Who Are the Creators?
A grade 12 Law teacher, Justin Schicksneit at Central Peel Secondary School is the moderator of this podcast.
Though he does not create the content himself, he moderates and regulates the episodes along with organizing Seasons
and helps audit each episode. This content is created by grade 12 law students themselves and is also researched by them
in order to put it into a cohesive episode in the end. Each episode is given as a summative project to groups of 4/5 made
by the students. The class then, as a collective, decides which criminal event in Canadian history they would like to research.
The students are required to give credible sources to their findings. These citations have been provided to you by the CrimeWaves
team to acknowledge the importance of credible journalism. These students and teachers work hard to provide to the listeners journalism
of the highest quality.
